Recently Lexpert Magazine released their list of big deals for 2014. The $5-Billion global bond financing of Muskrat Falls Hydroelectric Generating Facility and Labrador-Island Transmission Link, which is to be built on the Lower Churchill River in Labrador, was named number 4 amongst the top 10. McInnes Cooper acted as lead counsel for Nalcor Energy which secured the financing with Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP acting as lead project finance counsel. This deal set the record for the single largest infrastructure financing in Canadian history.

Our team, led by Newfoundland and Labrador partner Tom Kendell, was made up of the following energy and natural resource and corporate finance lawyers: John Green, Joe Macdonald, Len Hoyt, Jaime Connolly, Dennis Clarke, Greg Connors, Jenny Gray, David MacDougall, Van Penick, George Cooper, Matt Clarke, James MacDuff, Henry Visser, Aidan Meade, Nick Whalen, Adrienne Mercer and Meghan Felt.

The facility, which is scheduled to being operations in 2017, will generate electricity transported via subsea cable to Newfoundland, Labrador and Nova Scotia.
