  • Preparation. How to be prepared for drug and alcohol issues in the workplace including: the ways in which they can arise; when to implement interim safety measures; and what defines a “safety-sensitive position”.
  • Investigation. How to investigate the circumstances when workplace drug and alcohol issues arise, including: the parameters of the “workplace”; the types of impairment testing and when employers can utilize it; and flagging and investigating claims of addiction and medical drug use.
  • Action. How to respond based on the investigation, including: when the human rights duty to accommodate does – and doesn’t – apply; the basis on which you can discipline employees for drug and alcohol issues; and how to apply the appropriate discipline.
