About Harvey

Harvey is a Partner in our Halifax office and a member of our Business Dispute Resolution Group. Harvey’s litigation practice concentrates on indigenous and construction law cases, as well as complex commercial and toxic torts cases. He has presented cases before all levels of court in Nova Scotia and the Supreme Court of Canada. Harvey has an AV rating with Martindale-Hubbell and has been recognized by Best Lawyers in Canada for his practice in Construction law and Corporate and Commercial Litigation since 2011. He was named Best Lawyers 2020 Corporate and Commercial Litigation “Lawyer of the Year” in Halifax. Harvey is also ranked by The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory for his practice in Construction Law, Litigation – Commercial Insurance, Litigation – Corporate Commercial, and Litigation – Directors’ & Officers’ Liability.

Among his notable cases are Palmer v. Nova Scotia Forest Industries (herbicide spraying), Sprayers of Dioxin Association v. NB Power (herbicide spraying), Mitsui v. Jones Power (construction claim) and R v. Marshall (indigenous logging), R v. Sappier (indigenous logging). He has also negotiated large construction and wind turbine supply contracts.

Harvey has published a number of articles on issues of conflict of laws, evidence and conflicts of interest in publications such as the Canadian Bar Review, International Maritime Law and Professional Liability and Discipline Quarterly. Harvey is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society. He is an International Associate of the American Bar Association. He is chair of the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo Society, and a member of the Parish Council at St. Peter’s Anglican Church and a member of the Halifax Advisory Board of the Salvation Army.
