About Don

Donald A. MacLeod is Counsel at the firm’s Halifax office, supporting ocean and marine related initiatives. He has an extensive background in the marine sector as a business executive and lawyer, and has worked with many clients in shipping, energy and marine insurance.

Having served as Vice President General Manager of J. Ray McDermott Canada and Vice President General Counsel at Secunda Marine, Don brings thirty years of experience in the shipping and offshore sectors of Canada and internationally. He has extensive transactional and ship finance experience with expertise in the fields of vessel sale and purchase, salvage, charter parties, marine insurance and shipyard contracts.

Don currently serves on the board of Shipowners Protection and Indemnity Association, and has for twenty years. A past Chairman of the Club, he now chairs the Finance Committee and sits on the Club’s investment and captive subsidiaries situated in Luxembourg and Bermuda. He is a Liveryman of the Company of Shipwrights, London, England and a Freeman of the City of London.

Don has extensive board experience in the commercial, public, educational and charitable sectors.
