She has also conducted bullying and harassment investigations.

Karen received a Bachelor of Commerce (Co-operative) (Honours) degree from Memorial University, where she was awarded the University Medal for Academic Excellence for graduating at the top of her class. She completed her Juris Doctor at the University of British Columbia in 2017. Among many achievements, she received the Hugh Ladner Memorial Prize in Labour Relations award and the Jack T. Edwards Memorial Award in Law for her work supporting pro-bono clients in the Business Law Clinic. She was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2018.
