About Jill

Jill is the lead of the MC Sport Law group and splits her practice with insurance defence litigation. She has long standing relationships with institutional insurance clients along with self-insured organizations and adjusting companies. She has experience resolving casualty claims including injury and fatality claims. Jill’s practice also includes addressing claims concerning commercial, property, professional liability, product liability, and life and disability matters. Jill has represented clients at the NS Court of Appeal, NS Supreme Court, NS Small Claims Court and Social Security Tribunal of Canada.

Jill’s sport law practice continues to grow and diversify. She brings the unique perspective to her sports practice which is informed from her background of being an Olympian, high performance athlete, coach, organizer, and volunteer. She assists clients with risk management, crisis management, along with policy and governance review. Jill can provide guidance and advice on contract and sponsorship agreements. She has extensive experience in adjudicating and mediating disciplinary disputes and has a keen interest in assisting Provincial and National Sport Organizations with addressing complex disciplinary or governance matters.

Jill is a 2004 Olympian and Pan American Games Champion in the sport of sprint kayaking. She is a member of the international Women in Sport Law Group, the Nova Scotia Barrister’s Society, the Canadian Bar Association, the Advocates’ Society, and Canadian Defence Lawyers. Jill is also an active community member volunteering as a Saint Mary’s University Board of Governors, Canadian Sport Institute Atlantic Board of Directors, the chair of Canoe ’22 Society, and remains a member of the High Performance Committee for Canoe Kayak Canada.
