About Guy

Guy’s practice is primarily focused in the areas of litigation and insurance defence. In the area of insurance defence, he represents insurers in motor vehicle personal injury claims, fire losses, oil spills, slip and falls and more. He also has defended negligence claims against lawyers. Guy has appeared before all levels of court in Nova Scotia. Aditionally, he has appeared before the public utility board on planning matters and has taken part in provincial inquiries, including the Marshall inquiry.

Guy is well-respected and has a thorough understanding of the law and court practice. As a result, he has handled several of the more complex litigation cases in the province in recent years. When the civil procedure rules were changed in Nova Scotia, the Barristers Society retained Guy to give training to lawyers throughout the province on the changes. In addition to his litigation experience, Guy has facilitated mediations for clients.

Guy also practices in the areas of wills and estates (including powers of attorney and medical directives), purchases and sales of residential property, and criminal law. His criminal practice extends to defence in murder trials, assaults, drug cases and a range of other criminal offences.

With a respected background in private practice, Guy has held senior positions at multiple local firms, including LaFosse MacLeod, which merged with McInnes Cooper in 2023.

Beyond his practice, Guy serves his community in numerous ways. He has participated in fundraisers for Hospice Cape Breton, including being a “star” in a “Dancing with the Stars” event, and is a consultant for the ongoing Cape Breton University medical school project.
