About Catherine

Catherine maintains a civil litigation practice, with a particular focus on insurance defence. She also has experience with defamation, construction disputes, and trust and estate litigation. With a passion for legal research and analysis, she provides sound, carefully considered advice to our clients throughout the litigation process. She also brings a background in social work to practice, providing her with a unique and compassionate perspective on understanding problems and building solutions.

Before joining McInnes Cooper, Catherine practiced civil litigation in Victoria, British Columbia, where she gained experience appearing before the British Columbia Supreme Court on applications and trials. Her experience in a plaintiff-focused practice gives her valuable insight that she can call upon when advising defendants.

During her studies at Memorial University of Newfoundland and the University of New Brunswick, she received several honorable recognitions. Among these accomplishments were: the University Medal for Academic Excellence in Social Work, the Leslie Thoms Convocation Award, the Lord Beaverbrook Scholarship in Law, and a Juris Doctor (with Distinction). In addition, Catherine was named to the Dean’s List during each year of her studies in law school and received numerous course prizes for top standing. She was also the Co-Editor-in-Chief of the University of New Brunswick Law Journal and a Judicial Intern to the Honourable Chief Justice J.C. Marc Richard of the New Brunswick Court of Appeal.

An active member in her community, Catherine sees significant value in mentorship and is pleased to be involved with the First Generation Network and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada. She has also been involved in judging the Canadian Client Consultation Competition.

Catherine is a member of the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Canadian Bar Association. When she’s not in the office, Catherine enjoys spending time with her niece, staying active, and cheering on her favourite sports teams.
