About Barry

Barry Lake is a partner in our St. John’s office and a leading lawyer in Newfoundland and Labrador in the area of real property work.

Over the last 20 years, Barry has developed a substantial real property practice for both residential and commercial matters. He has considerable experience in purchases, sales, financings, quieting of title applications, commercial land development and subdivision work, and often acts as counsel for several major chartered banks on financing matters. Barry has also done extensive work in commercial leasing within Newfoundland, and advises clients on any and all real property related matters. His experience extends to related wills and estate planning work and general corporate guidance for clients.

Barry is ranked in the 2019 Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory for his work in the area of property leasing, and by Best Lawyers™ in Canada for his real estate law practice. He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, Newfoundland and Labrador Branch and served as the chair of the Real Property Section from 2014 to 2019, additionally serving on the Mortgage Instructions Toolkit Subcommittee during that period. He is also a member of the Canadian Home Builders Association – Newfoundland and Labrador, serving on the finance committee from 2018-2020 and being elected to the Board of Directors in 2020. Barry has also been actively involved with the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador, sitting on both the Disciplinary Committee (2017-2021) and Real Estate Committee (2016-2021).
