Halifax, 28 March 2023 – McInnes Cooper is pleased to announce the appointment of Angela E. Simmonds to the position of Senior Advisor, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.
This role is newly created to reflect the importance of DEI at McInnes Cooper, where we believe our differences makes us stronger. We are committed to creating a workplace where members of McInnes Cooper feel heard, valued, supported and respected; Angela’s contributions in this role will support the improvement and effective implementation of our DEI processes. When Angela stepped down from her MLA position, we quickly connected with her to determine if there was an opportunity for us to work together. We’re thrilled that she chose to take the next step in her career with us. She will work closely with our DEI Working Group and People & Culture team, assessing progress on our current Action Plan and helping us as we take steps in building a more equitable organization.
Angela Simmonds shares, “I’m pleased to be joining McInnes Cooper in their continued work to build an equitable organization. As a long-standing advocate and leader in workplace diversity, equity and inclusion, I look forward to working with staff and partners across Atlantic Canada in support of an inclusive workplace.”
“We’re delighted to welcome Angela as a new colleague and are excited to work with her to achieve maturity in our DEI planning and actions. We have made great strides in our DEI work over the past few years and look forward to having a dedicated resource to elevate our efforts,” says Angela Lewis, CHRP, Managing Director, People & Culture.
Kevin Kiley KC, Managing Partner, comments, “Angela brings to McInnes Cooper a depth of experience that combines her lived experience, law and political backgrounds to provide our organization with a knowledge of DEI issues and an opportunity to support significant advances in this space.”
In addition to her part time role with McInnes Cooper, Angela will continue to provide DEI consulting services to her personal clients. She is a consultant, speaker, educator and lawyer. Her 20-year career extends over the various fields of socio-economic development, education, entrepreneurship, policy and cultural competency. Previously, she was a member and deputy speaker of the Nova Scotia legislative assembly.
