McInnes Cooper acted as counsel to approximately 333,000 Canadian Armed Forces and Royal Canadian Mounted Police members, veterans and their dependants in the case known as Manuge v. Canada. The class action alleged that, since 2003, Veterans Affairs Canada miscalculated the annual indexation of disability benefits and therefore underpaid the class.
The Federal Court of Canada approved a settlement agreement in the class action with the approval order being final on March 18, 2024. The estimated value that has been paid/will be paid to class members is more than $500,000,000.
