Michael is a Partner in our Halifax office and a member of the Firm’s Litigation and Insurance Defence business units. Michael primarily litigates construction, business, insurance and professional negligence and malpractice disputes, as well as disputes concerning municipal law.
Michael has represented clients in all levels of court in Nova Scotia including the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court, as well the Residential Tenancies Board and Utility and Review Board. Michael’s trial experience includes matters before both juries and judge-alone. He routinely represents clients in alternative dispute resolution processes including mediations and arbitrations, particularly in the context of construction related disputes.
Michael is a member of the Nova Scotia Barrister’s Society, the Canadian Bar Association and the Advocates’ Society. He was a part-time instructor at Dalhousie University’s Schulich School of Law for five years teaching in the area of civil (litigation) procedure.
In his spare time, Michael is an outdoor enthusiast whose pursuits include salmon fishing, hunting, and canoeing. He also enjoys golf, tennis, basketball, personal fitness training and nutrition. He is an avid skeet shooting enthusiast, holding both Canadian and World Junior championships in the sport. Michael is also a member of the Canadian National team in Olympic Skeet Shooting.
Michael’s community and volunteer involvement includes acting as a board member for the Nova Scotia Salmon Association, a volunteer and committee member for the Atlantic Salmon Federation, a director for the Dartmouth Clay Target Association, and repeat leadership of internal campaigns in support of Prostate Cancer Canada and the Special Olympics.
