Dashawn Smith is completing his articles at McInnes Cooper’s Halifax office. His legal interests include Labour and Employment, Wills and Estates, Litigation, and Land Titles, with a strong emphasis on equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). At law school, he contributed to the EDI Committee, drafting the annual report and proposing strategies to increase Black student enrollment in graduate legal studies and was an active member of the Dalhousie Black Law Students’ Association (DBLSA). He also conducted legal research for the Ocean Frontier Institute, focusing on international climate and ocean law and its impact on people of African descent, particularly African Nova Scotians.

Outside the office, Dashawn enjoys time with his kids, playing basketball and football, reading about Critical Race Theory, justice systems, and climate change, and exploring global cuisines through cooking.
