About Darren

Darren Steeves is McInnes Cooper’s Senior Manager, Learning & Development. He leads the firm’s learning and development strategy, including governance, evaluation frameworks, and the design of personalized learning pathways that support professional growth across the organization. Darren also oversees the firm’s wellbeing and psychological health and safety initiatives, helping advance a culture of high performance, continuous learning, and sustainable professional practice. In addition, he leads McInnes Cooper’s law student and articling clerk program, supporting the development of emerging legal talent as they begin their careers.

Darren brings extensive experience designing and implementing learning and development strategies across corporate, academic, and high-performance environments. His work is grounded in evidence-based approaches, including experiential learning, coaching, and performance-focused design, with an emphasis on translating learning into measurable capability, behaviourial change, and organizational impact. Throughout his career, he has developed certification programs for employees and post initiatives, and designed structured development programs for leaders, professionals, and early-career talent.

Prior to joining McInnes Cooper, Darren advised organizations on workforce development, learning strategy, employee wellbeing, and performance as the leader of an organizational health consulting firm. He also co-founded a technology company focused on creating personalized learning pathways through digital platforms.

A researcher and educator, Darren serves as an Adjunct Professor in the School of Health and Human Performance at Dalhousie University. He has authored more than 10 peer-reviewed research publications, generating more than 15,000 reads and over 300 citations. His research has focused on topics including resilience, quality of life, mental health, and the use of technology to support behaviour change and learning. Darren has also worked in high-performance sport, coaching world champions and Olympic medallists.

Outside of work, Darren enjoys spending time with family and friends, practicing mindfulness, and pursuing his lifelong passion for physical activity and wellbeing. He also enjoys restoring his antique car and writing.
