About Carly

Carly Bursey is completing articles at McInnes Cooper’s St. John’s office. Her areas of interest include tax, estates, corporate, securities, and corporate governance matters, with a focus on practical, business‑minded solutions informed by her prior industry experience.

Carly earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Calgary in 2026, where she was named to the Dean’s List and received several academic awards, including the Stikeman Elliott LLP Prize in Business Law. She also received the Best Business Approach award in the Shell Canada In‑House Legal Advice Competition.

Prior to law school, Carly completed a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Kinesiology, both with distinction, at the University of Calgary in 2017. She obtained her CPA designation in 2021 and began her career in public practice before moving into a financial reporting management role in industry, where she gained experience working on complex financial and operational matters.

Outside of work, Carly competes in Brazilian Jiu‑Jitsu and enjoys backcountry hiking and trail running.
