McInnes Cooper is pleased to congratulate Primrose Watson for being selected as one of the Most Inspiring Immigrants in the Maritimes for 2020 by My East Coast Experience. The awards and gala took place on January 17, 2020 at the Westin Nova Scotian in Halifax.
Primrose inspires many with her positive life story and relentless pursuit of excellence. She immigrated to Halifax from Sri Lanka in 2007 in search of a better life. Pursuing her lifelong dream, she soon set out on a ten-year journey to become a lawyer. She graduated with Bachelor of Commerce and Juris Doctor degrees from Dalhousie University and was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 2019. During this time, she began a family of her own. Primrose and her spouse met in Nova Scotia and are proud parents of two young children.
Having first joined McInnes Cooper as a summer student in 2016, Primrose completed her articling with the firm, and is now a lawyer in corporate and tax law. She has been invited to speak on a number of occasions; most recently speaking at the 2019 Spring Dinner for the Halifax Chamber of Commerce on successful strategies for work-integrated learning and how employers can attract and retain newcomers to Atlantic Canada.
Primrose shows great discipline to pursue goals and navigate complex obstacles. Her resilient sense of determination is injected into her practice for the benefit of clients. She leads with a solution mindset, applying professional experience in sales, insurance underwriting and financial accounting, in addition to the practice of law.
Primrose is quick to give back to her community. She has volunteered in every federal, provincial and municipal election for nearly a decade in various support and leadership roles. From volunteering for the Dalhousie Alumni Association Board of Directors, to coaching students on how to navigate law school and the legal recruitment process, she is an avid supporter of initiatives that create positive outcomes. Showing great enthusiasm, Primrose is a valued mentor to many. She is a respected advocate for democracy, empowerment, inclusion and work-life balance.
McInnes Cooper congratulates all 2020 recipients of this award for making positive impact in the community. Thank you for your outstanding contributions.
