McInnes Cooper is pleased to welcome Nicholas “Nick” Burke as a partner in our Sydney office, adding broad litigation experience and deep Cape Breton roots to the firm’s team. Born and raised in Cape Breton, Nick is passionate about contributing to the community and continuing to serve clients in the region he calls home.
“Nick strengthens our litigation practice locally, while further strengthening our ties to the Cape Breton community,” says McInnes Cooper Managing Partner Kevin Kiley. “We are thrilled to have Nick join the team, and I am confident our clients will benefit from his addition.”
When asked about the move to McInnes Cooper, Nick said, “I’m excited to join McInnes Cooper, a firm known for its commitment to innovation in legal practice and its established history in this region.”
Nick maintains a civil litigation practice and has experience in criminal law, insurance and estate litigation. He has appeared before the Provincial Court, the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia, and the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal.
He joins McInnes Cooper from Lorway MacEachern McLeod Burke, where he articled, became an associate in 2016 and joined the partnership in 2020. His well-rounded litigation background also includes time practising with Nova Scotia Legal Aid and experience helping clients navigate civil, insurance and estate matters.
Nick also brings a longstanding commitment to public service and community leadership. Before entering private practice, he served as a Captain in the Canadian Armed Forces, working as a Health Care Administration Officer with 35 (Sydney) Field Ambulance. He is a recipient of the Canadian Forces’ Decoration.
