HALIFAX, NS May 9, 2014 – Immigrants starting a business and employing Nova Scotians will have access to pro-bono law services as a result of new partnership between McInnes Cooper and Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia (ISANS), a leading community organization that welcomes immigrants to Nova Scotia.
McInnes Cooper, among the top business law firms in Canada, will provide legal counsel for qualified ISANS clients intending to start a business, including advice on alternate forms of business organization, completion of required documents to establish a business organization, review of commercial leases, advice on labour standards and employment law issues, and tax planning and compliance.
“McInnes Cooper is excited to partner with ISANS to make it easier for immigrants to start a business, employ Nova Scotians and contribute to the economic future of the province,” said Hugh Wright, partner, McInnes Cooper.
ISANS will facilitate the referral of qualified pro bono clients to McInnes Cooper, and provide space for legal counsel and clients to meet. As many as 100 ISANS clients per year may be eligible to participate.
“Immigration is essential to the future of Nova Scotia,” said Gerry Mills, of ISANS. “McInnes Cooper’s legal services and counsel will help immigrants navigate, what is to them, a new legal and business environment, and create opportunities to participate fully in Nova Scotia life.”
McInnes Cooper will also provide ISANS clients with pro-bono legal counsel on other agreed upon areas that arise throughout the course of the collaboration.
