Halifax, Nova Scotia (August 4, 2025) – McInnes Cooper today announced a merger with Barteaux Labour and Employment Lawyers Inc. (“BLE”), adding additional experience and talent in labour, employment and immigration, to a firm which is already among the 20 largest law firms in Canada.
“With the merger, we continue our growth, allowing us to provide leading strategic advice and solutions to clients in Atlantic Canada, across the country and beyond” says McInnes Cooper Managing Partner Kevin Kiley, adding “BLE is a boutique firm comprised of highly talented labour and employment and immigration professionals. Their addition to our team further enhances our position as leaders in Atlantic Canada in those practice areas.”
Nancy F. Barteaux, K.C., Founder and Principal of BLE comments, “I’m excited about the opportunities this creates for our clients and our team. By consolidating our resources, knowledge and experience, we will bring even stronger bench strength and expertise to clients on both sides on this merger”. Nancy adds “I was a partner with McInnes Cooper earlier in my career before establishing a boutique practice, so it is serendipitous that I am back again to continue with a firm that is focused on growth, engagement of its members, and the pursuit of innovative solutions to the benefit of all our clients.”
Barteaux Labour and Employment Lawyers Inc. is made up of three lawyers, one Articled Clerk and four staff, and has a roster of clients spanning a wide range of sectors including energy, fishing, paper, IT, post-secondary, public and quasi-public. All of BLEs members will be joining McInnes Cooper.
With over 500 members, comprising lawyers and professional resources, across seven offices, McInnes Cooper will provide a rich pool of complementary experience for BLE’s valued clients.
The merger is effective August 11th, 2025; the merged firm will continue as McInnes Cooper.
