Acquisition of Kranc Associates gives the firm a focused Toronto presence, strengthens corporate immigration capabilities, and adds to McInnes Cooper’s growing legal, advisory and technology-enabled services
HALIFAX, NS and TORONTO, ON —June 29th, 2026— McInnes Cooper, one of Canada’s most established business law firms, today announced its expansion into Ontario, giving the firm a focused presence in Toronto and a stronger foundation for serving clients in Canada’s largest legal market.
The expansion is anchored by McInnes Cooper’s acquisition of Kranc Associates, a Toronto-based corporate immigration practice led by Benjamin Kranc (surname pronounced “Krantz”). The combination enhances the firm’s corporate immigration capabilities and creates a new point of connection for clients, employers, relocation providers and referral partners whose needs cross provincial and national borders.
For McInnes Cooper, the acquisition reflects a longstanding reality: the firm has long advised clients whose business needs extend beyond Atlantic Canada, including clients with operations, employees and opportunities in Ontario. By combining McInnes Cooper’s full-service legal and advisory platform with Kranc Associates’ well-established corporate immigration practice, the firm is strengthening its ability to support clients as they move talent, manage growth and navigate increasingly complex workforce needs across jurisdictions.
The move also builds on McInnes Cooper’s deep roots in Atlantic Canada. With a history spanning more than 167 years and a strong presence across the region, the firm will continue to invest in the clients, industries and communities that have shaped its success. The Ontario expansion reflects the needs of clients whose businesses increasingly operate across provincial boundaries, while reinforcing the firm’s ongoing commitment to Atlantic Canada.
In Ontario, the transaction gives McInnes Cooper an immediate presence through a highly respected business, in a federal practice area that serves employers, multinational businesses, relocation providers and law firm referral sources. Because corporate immigration work regularly intersects with employment, tax, corporate and regulatory issues, the acquisition enhances the firm’s ability to support clients and referral partners on related matters where independence, responsiveness and innovation matter. It also positions McInnes Cooper as a stronger collaborator in the market and a practical alternative for clients seeking integrated legal support.
“This is an important step in the continued growth of our firm,” said Kevin Kiley, Managing Partner of McInnes Cooper. “We have served clients with needs that extend into Ontario and beyond for many years. This transaction allows us to deepen those relationships, establish a meaningful presence in Toronto and bring our collaborative, solutions-driven approach to a broader Canadian audience. All while remaining firmly committed to our Atlantic Canadian roots.”
Kranc Associates brings a mature corporate immigration practice; strong client relationships and a delivery model built for efficiency. The practice is supported by proven workflows and client-facing technology that improves visibility, responsiveness and service consistency, capabilities that align closely with McInnes Cooper’s focus on innovation and practical, business-oriented legal solutions. Together, the firms are well positioned to meet growing demand from employers for high-quality, technology-enabled legal support in an evolving immigration and workforce environment.
“Joining McInnes Cooper creates a strong path forward for our clients and our team,” said Benjamin Kranc, Principal of Kranc Associates. “The firm brings depth, reach and a clear commitment to client service and innovation. I am confident this combination will create new opportunities for clients who need sophisticated corporate immigration support, as well as access to a broader range of legal and advisory services.”
This is a clear step forward in delivering on McInnes Cooper’s growth strategy. It gives the firm an immediate presence in Toronto, strengthens a nationally relevant area of practice, and creates new opportunities to support clients whose legal and business needs cross provincial and national borders. It also reflects the firm’s broader evolution as a multi-service, technology-enabled business law firm with deep roots in Atlantic Canada and growing reach across Canada.
The transaction closes on July 1, 2026.
