McInnes Cooper is saddened to announce the recent passing of long time McInnes Cooper lawyer and former partner Paul Murphy, “Murph,” as he was affectionately known.
Paul attended St. Mary’s High School, Dalhousie University (BA and LLB), and Southern Methodist University (LLM). In 1969, he started his legal career at the then Dartmouth firm Drury Heustis. In 1970, Paul was recruited to join the Halifax firm Kitz Matheson, where he continued to practice law at various successor firms, eventually McInnes Cooper, for the next 50 years.
Paul started his career as a family law specialist. He quickly transformed himself into a property and corporate commercial law specialist.
Throughout his career, Paul was greatly admired and respected for his skills as a lawyer, and as an advocate for his clients. Most importantly, Paul was known as a pleasure to deal with within the firm, by his clients, and by the lawyers he dealt with on files. He was a lawyer’s lawyer.
Inside and outside the firm, he was a well-known joker and jokester. His great humour and smile, made the firm a better place to practice law.
Paul and his wife, Kim (Squires) lived life to the fullest, and travelled the world with many of their best friends.
McInnes Cooper extends its sympathies to Paul’s wife Kim, his two children, Gavin and JoAnna, his brother Arthur, and his four grandchildren, all of whom he adored.
