Michael Simms is a Partner at McInnes Cooper whose energy practice is grounded in practical, business-focused experience. Before re-entering private practice, he spent several years as senior counsel at the Canadian head offices of a major international oil and gas company, giving him first-hand insight into how energy projects are developed, approved and managed.
He advises clients on energy, natural resources, infrastructure and environmental matters across renewable energy, oil and gas, hydrogen, mining and transmission projects. Mike helps clients advance complex projects through regulatory approvals, commercial structuring and joint ventures, while managing environmental, health and safety, competition and corporate compliance considerations.
For IBA attendees, Mike offers a practical Canadian market perspective on energy transition, regulatory approvals and emerging low-carbon investment.
