Profile

Doug is a Partner in McInnes Cooper’s Halifax office and a member of our Business Dispute Resolution Group. He has practiced as a leading barrister in all types of litigation – in all levels of court in Nova Scotia as well as the Supreme Court of Canada – for over thirty years. Doug specializes in business litigation and corporate and commercial litigation and has acted as lead counsel in numerous cases, covering such issues as: shareholder disputes, securities litigation, professional liability claims, product liability disputes, aircraft and railway litigation and in class actions, representing plaintiffs and defendants in certified claims. 

 

Doug was recently selected by his peers for inclusion in the 2013 Best Lawyers in Canada, in the areas of Corporate and Commerical Litigation, Product Liability Law, and Class Action Litigation.

 

Doug is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society. He is a member of the Arbitration and Mediation Institute of Canada and Co-Founder and Past President of the Atlantic Provinces Arbitration and Mediation Institute. He is affiliated with the Medical-Legal Society of Nova Scotia, the American Bar Association, the American Association for Justice and is an Elected Fellow of the International Society of Barristers. Doug is a founding member of the Brain Injury Association of Nova Scotia; the Past President of Society of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Nova Scotia; Honourary Trustee of Board of Directors of QEII Hospital Foundation.
